Stephanie Resnick, Managing Partner of Fox Rothschild’s Philadelphia Office, to Receive the AJC’s 2021 Judge Learned Hand AwardDecember 2, 2020 – Press Releases
The American Jewish Committee will present Stephanie Resnick, Managing Partner of Fox Rothschild’s Philadelphia office, with the 2021 Judge Learned Hand Award in honor of her decades of leadership and achievements in the legal industry and her lifelong contributions to the Philadelphia community.
The award recognizes a lawyer whose professional accomplishments, humanitarian efforts and civic dedication embody the qualities of a legendary federal judge, the Honorable Learned Hand, who was considered a dean among jurists. In more than five decades on the bench, Judge Hand set a standard for judicial excellence and encouraged a commitment to defending civil liberties.
Resnick was among the first women to serve as lead attorney in bet-the-company litigation matters for Fortune 500 clients. Throughout her career, she has worked to promote access to justice, to ensure the quality and independence of the judiciary and to advance women in the legal profession. Through her pro bono work and service on nonprofit boards, she has furthered the missions of various organizations, including as former Chair of the Board of Womens Way, one of the nation’s oldest and largest funding federation for services to women and children, as a member of the corporate board of the Philadelphia Art Museum, and as a volunteer lawyer for Support Center for Child Advocates.
“Fox has been home to three recipients of the Judge Learned Hand Award, and we’re exceedingly proud that Stephanie, our fourth recipient, continues that tradition,” said Chair of the Firm Mark L. Silow. “First and foremost, Stephanie is a superb trial lawyer. But this award recognizes that she has also had a tremendous influence on her peers and the profession through her leadership positions both within the firm, in the organized bar and in the Philadelphia community.”
A former Chair of the Board of Governors of the Philadelphia Bar Association, Resnick was appointed to serve as the Third Circuit Representative to the ABA’s Standing Committee on the Federal Judiciary where she helped to vet a significant number of federal court judicial nominees, including at least one Supreme Court justice. She also served as Chair of the Philadelphia Bar Association’s Federal Courts Committee, and as Chair of its Commission on Judicial Selection and Retention. Resnick was appointed by Mayor Michael Nutter to his Advisory Task Force on Ethics and Campaign Finance Reform. She was also appointed early in her career to the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas Gender Fairness Task Force.
Within Fox Rothschild, Resnick is a member of the Executive Committee and Chair of the firm’s Directors’ & Officers’ Liability & Corporate Governance Practice Group. She previously served as Chair of the nationwide Litigation Department, which then numbered more than 300 attorneys. She was also a founding member of the firm’s Women’s Initiative, which has succeeded in encouraging women attorneys throughout the firm to lead practice groups and departments and serve as managing partners of offices and on the Executive Committee.
Resnick’s courtroom wins and case results for businesses of all sizes and individuals have earned accolades from clients and colleagues that have placed her on the most prominent lists of leading lawyers. She is ranked in Chambers USA, is rated AV Preeminent by Martindale-Hubbell and is consistently listed among the Top 250 Women in Litigation by Benchmark Litigation and Best Lawyers in America. She is an elected member of the American Law Institute and a fellow of the American Bar Foundation.
In 2019, Resnick was recognized for Lifetime Achievement in the Women, Influence & Power in Law award series presented by Corporate Counsel and InsideCounsel. She was also named to the “Influencers of Law” list by The Philadelphia Inquirer and is a recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from The Legal Intelligencer. Resnick was named to the “Trailblazers” list for Litigation by The National Law Journal and is a recipient of the “Women of Distinction Award” from the Philadelphia Business Journal. Women’s Way, a nonprofit that works to mobilize opportunities for women and girls, recently honored Resnick, a longtime member of its board of directors, as a “Builder.”
Resnick is also a recipient of the highly coveted Sandra Day O'Connor Award, presented by the Philadelphia Bar Association to a woman attorney who has achieved the highest degree of professional excellence and has used her position and stature in the community to mentor, promote and advance other women lawyers.
