The Intersection of Ethics and the Law in Health Care

The session will cover selected legal and ethical issues often encountered by health care providers, including surrogate decision makers, decision-making capacity, advance directives, mandatory reporting, end of life concerns, futility of medical treatment, and conflicts of interest. Providers regularly encounter difficult legal and ethical issues in practice, and this session will give attendees a background in the applicable legal and ethical principles and a framework for analyzing these issues and helping patients and families navigate difficult situations.
