The call for change is clear. Around the country and throughout the world, people are coming together in historic gatherings to state, irrefutably and unmistakably, one simple fact: Black lives matter. That statement is a truth independent of politics and debate.
As a national law firm, Fox Rothschild is, and has always been, committed to a more just and equal world. While we are not perfect, we continually strive to be an active participant in a world that is for everyone, where no one’s humanity is determined by the color of their skin.
And so, the time to act is now. Our core values at Fox Rothschild stand in direct opposition to hatred and racism in all forms, but for us to advance and grow as a firm, it is necessary for us to more actively and directly improve diversity and inclusion within Fox Rothschild and within our profession. Simply put, we need to do more.
As a first step in this direction, and in consultation with our firm’s Diversity Committee, the firm’s Executive Committee decided at its retreat in February to appoint a Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer (CD&IO). We are pleased to announce that Kimberly Bullock Gatling has agreed to assume the CD&IO role, effective immediately.
With the full backing and support of firm leadership, Kim will develop and implement programs and policies that support our goals of increasing and promoting a diverse workforce and inclusive environment at all levels throughout the firm.
Kim joined us as a partner in 2018 through our combination with Smith Moore Leatherwood. A past Fellow in the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity, Kim serves on the board of the United Way of Greater Greensboro and of Cone Health Foundation, as well as the Board of Trustees for North Carolina A&T State University. Kim has held leadership positions with Habitat for Humanity, the American Cancer Society, Jack and Jill of America, Inc. and The Links, Incorporated, among other organizations.
Throughout her many years of service in these outside leadership positions, Kim consistently helped to ensure programs and initiatives that positively impacted community members and helped them achieve a better quality of life. In her CD&IO role, she will continue those efforts, with her focus on our firm, working to ensure that Fox’s diversity and inclusion efforts support a workplace that is inclusive of all.
