Fox IP Group Listed in IAM Patent 1000
For the sixth consecutive year, attorneys in Fox Rothschild’s Intellectual Property Department are listed in the IAM Patent 1000.
This annual guide, produced by Intellectual Asset Management, identifies top patent practitioners in key jurisdictions around the globe, determined through extensive research and interviews with attorneys and in-house counsel around the world.
Fox’s Intellectual Property Department, comprised of more than 100 professionals nationwide, includes more than a dozen who hold doctoral degrees in the sciences and engineering, as well as former U.S. Patent and Trademark Office examiners, former university and industry researchers and former in-house attorneys and corporate engineers. They are highlighted in the IAM Patent 1000 for “understanding clients’ needs to a tee” and noted as a “first rate” patent prosecution team.
In New Jersey, where Fox’s Princeton office serves as the epicenter of the firm’s life sciences practice and represents such clients as Rutgers University, Rockefeller University, Bristol Myers Squibb, Merck and others, the following Fox attorneys are listed in the guide:
- Peter J. Butch is praised for being a “savvy prosecutor and sought-after opinion giver” who has “mastered all aspects of patent and contract law.”
- Jianming Jimmy Hao, Ph.D. and Wansheng Jerry Liu, Ph.D. are recognized for adding “tremendous value with their cross-cultural US and China know-how and commercial wisdom.”
- Gerard P. Norton Ph.D., Managing Partner of Fox’s Princeton office and the first attorney to serve as Chair of the firm’s IP Department, is noted for his “on point” strategic instincts “thanks to his vast experience in all phases of the patent lifecycle.”
For New York, home to a key group of patent practitioners in the firm, this year’s guide includes:
- Dianna G. El Hioum, who was appointed Chair of Fox’s Intellectual Property Department in 2021, is noted as "a well-connected, broad-minded counselor" and acknowledged for her work supervising prep and pros relating to therapeutic antibodies regarding cancer treatments for a leading biotechnology company.
- Christopher W. Glynn, Ph.D. is mentioned for handling extensive due diligence tasks on behalf of Healthcare Royalty Partners.
- Janet M. MacLeod, Ph.D., Managing Partner of Fox’s New York office, is featured for undertaking prosecution and portfolio management for Lytix Biopharma and is noted as “a critical component of teams supporting academic institutions.”
- Deborah A. Somerville is cited as an attorney who “makes sure your intellectual property supports your commercial goals and fulfills her partnering role with the utmost professionalism, dedication and comradery. She’s first rate and a great asset to have on your side.”
And in Pennsylvania, the guide highlights James M. Singer, Immediate Past Chair of Fox’s IP Department, for providing "prosecution and strategic counselling services to high-profile innovators.” Singer is recognized as someone “who has a gift for realizing clients’ business objectives through IP growth and development.”
Fox’s IP team handles the complete range of patent law matters, including domestic and foreign patent prosecution, corporate due diligence, post-grant proceedings, counseling and opinions regarding patent invalidity and noninfringement. In 2020 alone, the team of more than 45 registered patent attorneys and agents secured more than 1,100 patents worldwide, including nearly 500 in the United States.
